O Caminho do Rio

O Caminho do Rio, Jardin Botanique, Sao Paulo, Brésil 2013

Sao Paulo is a  extremely polluted city:

Soil pollution, visible air pollution and water pollution. Most of its many streams and rivers are buried underground. The largest ones have been canalized. They look like giant sewers and have congested highways running along the side of them.

This is a major environmental issue for the city, as now there is a great deal of flooding where bodies of water and marshes used to be.

In the idyllic setting of the Botanical Garden of Sao Paulo, a tiny canal inspired me to evoke this subject using plants. I used traces of the bed of the Tiete River before it was canalized as a foundation. In this way, the beauty of its sinuous curves are highlighted.

The river of flowers flows across different landscapes, transforming itself from a terrestrial plant to an aquatic plant as it weaves its way through the terrain.
